A woman traveling from Fort Myers, Florida, to Chicago said she was escorted off her Southwest Airline flight on Saturday because her 2-year-old son was snacking prior to takeoff and wasn’t wearing his mask.
Jodi Degyansky, 34, wants airlines to have more compassion for parents who have toddlers that might have difficulty donning their masks for a long time.
“We are trying to get used to it, but he’s 2,” Degyansky said.
LEFT VIEWPOINTS
- Traveling with a child is difficult, even without a mask-wearing policy. Intentional non-compliance should be grounds to be removed. However, a parent struggling to get a two-year-old to wear a mask is a different issue.
- Southwest runs a great airline, and all airlines have a difficult situation to manage during the coronavirus pandemic. It’s imperative for all passengers to attempt to comply with airline rules, no matter how they feel politically.
- Many would-be passengers avoid airline travel completely because they do not trust those around them to do the right thing and wear a mask. If airlines make exceptions, it exacerbates this problem and leads to fewer people purchasing airline tickets.
