Voter suppression looks like this

Original article from: NBC News

LaTosha Brown, co-founder of Black Voters Matter explains the voter suppression that Black voters have faced throughout the years, from activists fighting for the right to vote in 1965’s civil rights marches in Selma, Alabama to the issues with this year’s presidential primaries in Georgia.

LEFT VIEWPOINTS

  • Voter suppression is not a new issue. In fact, voter suppression has always been a part of the systemic racism problem in the United States.
  • African Americans were lynched and brutalized for over 100 years after that Civil War ended.
  • In 2020, it is still a big issue. By understaffing polling stations that are heavily used by African Americans, Republicans have intentionally suppressed voting by black Americans.
  • Mail-in voting is an important way to spread democracy and alleviating voter suppression.

By LeftViewpoint

I am politically left by U.S. standards, although I'd be considered moderate in most European Countries. I believe in universal healthcare, a UBI, equal opportunity to education, and expanded democracy. I think the free market works best for most industries. However, I am convinced that some industries, such as healthcare and education, do not respond to market forces and should be publically funded. Additionally, I believe industries that damage and destroy the environment should be regulated. My views are my own, and they do not necessarily represent what other people on the left believe. In that sense, LeftViewpoint is "a" left viewpoint, not "the" left viewpoint.
