President Donald Trump is blaming Democratic mayors for unrest across American cities in his bid to make law and order a central part of his re-election campaign.
Mr. Trump has repeatedly said that the 10 most dangerous cities in the US are all run by Democrats.
LEFT VIEWPOINTS
- Trump supporters are desperate to blame his failure to prevent the unprecedented level of unrest in America on Democrats, so they cling to the narrative that it’s due to Democrat-run cities.
- The racial unrest isn’t new. It’s been an unresolved issue for many decades. In fact, neither Democrats nor Republicans have adequately addressed the root cause of this problem: wealth inequality and poverty. That part is not Trump’s fault. What is his fault is that he’s making it inflaming it as a political strategy.
- The issue of police brutality is a nationwide failure. Blaming city politics for it fails to get to the heart of the matter. Crime increases in places with higher rates of poverty. Our nation attempts to solve this by policing, rather than addressing the wealth inequality and relative poverty throughout America.
